Scatter brained.

Upgraded the computers. Actually got that massive Samsung Neo G9 screen as well. Buying direct from Samsung gave a trade up discount. Gave up one of my old 1440p monitors. The process wasn’t exactly seamless. The delivery guy was suppose to take the old monitor but he said they only did that for TVs. He took it anyway. Seems like Samsung didn’t really work out all the kinks in that process.

Monitor is He-Yuge! But quite nice to work with. Only gripes I have is that the picture in picture setting can’t be changed if the monitor doesn’t detect any signals. My work laptop can only drive the full wide screen at 1440p resolution instead of the full 2560p resolution. A bit annoying but it can drive the monitor using it’s picture in picture feature and treat the monitor as 2 4k displays. So still ok. Just a slight annoyance having to futz with the menu every time I switch from the work laptop to my home desktop machine. A few games/programs aren’t exactly on board with the super wide display. Although Elite Dangerous looks pretty nice on it. I do see a weird artifact with ‘point’ light sources. You see a sort of 3×3 square pattern for the bloom of a bright point. It’s a bit weird. The provided power and video cables are ridiculously short. I get the signal needs to be excellent for 2x 4K over one cable but, come on! It’s barely long enough to have the computer right next to the monitor. At any rate, no bezels is such a nice experience. Now windows or whatever OS, needs to have better window management. Snapping a window to the corners or sides or the whole screen is a bit much for this monitor. I need to look into software that allows for more screen segmentation options. Instead of 2×2, maybe 2×3 or 2×4 segmentations. Win 11 does have something now, sort of, but it needs a bit more work IMO.

Been home for a good year now from being in Alabama for my wife’s Ph.D. studies. Still feel a bit all over the place though. Gradually, I’m feeling back to normal. Getting back into a regular rhythm and routine. Picking up some things that I was starting before her Ph.D. started. The Ph.D. is still going though, so there still some chaos still going on. But at least my programming/gaming sanctuary is back.
